Introducing Geotargeting

I am pleased to announce that we have added geo-targeting to the PayPerPost marketplace. Geo-targeting allows advertisers to make Opportunities available only to those who reside in selected geographic regions. To utilize this new feature click Create Opportunity. When you get to the creation page section 3 allows you to make your targeting selections.

The targeting options are broken down into two categories. The first is general targeting by continent:

If you click "Show Area Specifics" you will see a break down by individual country:

select country

This is has been a feature request for some time and I am happy to say it's finally here! We look forward to your feedback about this new segmentation option.

Does this mean that we Posties will be needing to supply our location?

Just to put a little perspective on this from someone with unusual circumstances.

I live in Poland as an Expat
I run my company from the UK
50% of my traffic is from the US, plus a fair amount from Canada.

Whilst I can understand why certain advertisers might prefer a very much regional perspective, or might want to ship samples to those reviewing something, I think it would be important to note that country of residence is not the same as where readers come from.

Hopefully you can find a way of also monitoring traffic sources and provide that as some kind of GEO-Targeting

I think the implementation is pretty poor. The fact that Canada and the US share the same weight in the interface as St. Pierre et Miquelon, Haiti, Cuba, etc...

When you get down to the root of the issue, advertisers want to reach markets. Would it not make sense to sort things on a market basis. Sorting them alphabetically makes it easier for advertisers to reach the countries that will generate sales.

That is, if you discard Andy Beard's point above which I support 100%. I actually wrote a longer post about that in another thread. I share similar stats as Andy.

I can't access the advertiser's section to test the 'Create Opportunity' feature, but am guessing the 'Australia' tab also includes 'New Zealand', as I seem to be able to take opportunities that include this segmentation.

If this is correct, is it possible to rename that geographical area as 'Australasia' or 'Oceania'?? I know for many people in the north, New Zealand and Australia are indistinguisable, but for those of us living here it's kindof the equivalent of calling an American a Canadian! ;-)
